How to Uninstall QuickTime for Windows

In All Posts, How To Guides, Security

Back in April 2016 Apple announced that they will no longer be supporting QuickTime for Windows. Whenever a company stops supporting a product they discontinue updates which means that security exploits will no longer be patched. This is when we first told our clients that the time has come to uninstall QuickTime from their Windows computers.

Five months later we still find Windows computers with QuickTime installed. If you don’t know how to properly uninstall QuickTime then follow the instructions below.

The first thing you need to do is open up Control Panel.

If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7 you can get to Control Panel by clicking on Start.

If you are using Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 you can access control panel by clicking on Start and typing Control Panel at the metro (tile) screen. When you begin typing you will see the Control Panel option appear on the right-hand side of your computer.

If you are using Windows 10 you can access Control Panel by right-clicking on the Start button.

Once you have opened Control Panel make sure that you select the Category view option by selecting it from the drop down menu in the upper right corner.

When you are in Category view click on Uninstall a program under the Program section.

This will take you to a list of all the programs currently installed on your computer. The programs are sorted alphabetically by default. Scroll through this list until you see QuickTime. Once you’ve found it you will need to highlight it by clicking it.

After highlighting QuickTime you will see a couple of options above the list. Click Uninstall. A pop-up window will ask you to confirm that you’d like to uninstall the program. Click Yes.

If the User Account Control window pops up asking if you want to allow this app to remove software from your PC click Yes.

Congratulations, you have officially uninstalled QuickTime from your Windows computer and now have one less vulnerability to worry about.
